Everyone has an opinion about steroids, but not everyone has the facts. Over the past few years, this type of performance-enhancing drug has become big news, and the number of investigations and prosecutions linked to it across the country has risen similarly.

Today, nearly 1% of the US population uses anabolic steroids. Most of them inject the drugs, while some take pills or use steroid creams. And while you probably think this doesn’t count as a drug offense, you’re wrong.

If you’ve been charged with steroids possession, particularly in New York, turn to me, Olivier E. Roche, Esq. for your defense. I was a former prosecutor and I know the justice system from both sides.

What are Anabolic Steroids?

Anabolic steroids are artificial versions of the body’s naturally occurring testosterone. Commonly referred to as juice, this drug creates a reaction in the body that’s much like testosterone. It helps the body retain protein, which aids in muscle development.

Doctors prescribe it to patients to treat the loss of normal testicular function or to treat breast cancer. When a patient has a legitimate prescription, they’re allowed to possess steroids. The drug, however, is sold on the black market, with athletes often using it to build muscle, increase endurance, and decrease recovery time.

Steroid possession under these circumstances can lead to a drug possession charge in New York.

Steroid Possession in New York

According to the Anabolic Steroids Control Act of 1990, it is an offense to possess steroids without a valid prescription. The drug is classified as a Schedule III controlled substance, which means being charged with simple possession could get you up to a year of jail time and a $1,000 fine for a first offense.

Second-time offenders could face more serious penalties.
